Ten years ago today, we opened the PlanetSolar Village in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. Sailing around the world with a solar boat was still just a childhood dream… What has been done is immense both to make this dream come true but also for a global awareness of climate change.
In 2009, the construction of the huge PlanetSolar catamaran began, the team was preparing the round-the-world solar travel, the project funding was at an end touching, but already, one of the priorities of the PlanetSolar Foundation was to share this fabulous adventure and its commitment to solar energy with people. On September 2, 2009, the Foundation inaugurated its Solar Village in Yerdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. This giant outdoor exhibition was intended to provide visitors with an overview of the major issues of climate change, to show that solutions, such as solar energy, exist and to communicate what would become the first around the world tour with solar energy. This village would then travel around the world with PlanetSolar between 2010 and 2012, allowing during several stopovers to share this commitment all around the world. A lot has been done since then to promote solar energy and global awareness of the climate emergency…
